Marianne is the Associate Dean of the University of Melbourne’s Business School and a Gartner Group Fellow, of which there are only ten worldwide, where she was previously a Group Vice-President.  She has an international reputation as a thought leader and communicator about the management of information technology. Her industry research and consulting have involved more than eighty businesses in nine countries.

Marianne has traveled the globe to speak at events such as the Business Week Conferences and the Forbes CIO Congress and has led extensive, complex research engagements on such topics as "Designing Effective IT Governance" and the "Evolution of the Role of the Chief Information Officer". Her reviews laud her as "insightful", "profound" and "illuminating". 

Marianne has published extensively in both industry and academic presses. She authored the top selling IT management book, Leveraging the New Infrastructure: How Market Leaders Capitalize on Information Technology (Harvard Business School Press, 1998) and the groundbreaking The New CIO Leader: Setting the Agenda and Delivering Results (Harvard Business School Press, 2004). She has won two international awards for articles published in the Sloan Management Review. She is also a regular contributor to CIO Insight, where she writes a quarterly column on Strategy and has published in the MIS Quarterly, the Information Systems Journal and the Journal of Strategic Information Systems.

Marianne’s recent speaking engagements cover a wide range of IT-related topics, including IT Governance: Who Cares and Why Does It Matter?; Business and IT: It’s About Mutuality, not Alignment;  and Driving Critical IT-related Decisions.
